All giraffes come from the continent of Africa, but within the giraffe family, there are nine recognized subspecies or races. The subspecies are often identified by their markings–whether spotted, reticulated, jagged, leafy or blotched.

ZooMembers: don't forget to bring your Caldwell Zoo membership card each time you visit the zoo. Membership cards are always required for entry into the zoo.
Group Admission
Groups of 15 or more are eligible for discounted group admission pricing. The group must pay as a single transaction to receive the discount. Call for special school rates.
We also recommend that groups complete our online Group Reservation Form so we can collect your group information in advance and assist you with your planning.

Zoo Policies
For your safety and that of the animals, fires, pets and sporting equipment are not allowed at the Zoo.
Picnics and coolers are allowed in the designated picnic areas only, located adjacent to the parking lot outside the Zoo entrance. View map or download a printable map.
Caldwell Zoo animals are fed scientifically prepared diets. Please help keep all the animals healthy by not feeding them “people food.” Duck and fish food dispensers (25¢) are available.
Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card are accepted.
Services and Amenities
Stroller, Wagon, Wheelchair Rental
Wagon and stroller rentals are available for $6.00 + tax ($6.50 total) and wheelchairs are $6.79+ tax ($7.35 total). Come to Visitor Services, located just inside the Zoo entrance. Photo ID required for rental.

Crossroads Trading Company
The Crossroads Trading Company located at the main entrance offers African artifacts and gifts as well as T-shirts, books, plush toys and many souvenir items.

Chakula Café
One of few spots in Texas where you can enjoy a corn dog while gazing at giraffes, Chakula Café offers a unique dining experience at the African Overlook. Great burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and other snacks are served. Dining area is for café patrons only.
Additional refreshment locations are open on a seasonal basis.

Picnic Areas
We offer family picnic spots adjacent to the main parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Groups arriving by bus are invited to use the large picnic area near the bus parking lot on Gentry Parkway.
